Eye of the Tiger

Hello, everyone!  It has been a VERY busy time for me lately, so I’ve been slacking on my blog posts.  Here’s a quick update on the Sunday Best project and my Kickstarter campaign.  As you may remember, I ran a 30-day Kickstarter campaign with a $5,000 goal to raise funds for the film, processing, printing and framing of the show.  I’m sorry to report that my fundraising efforts were unsuccessful.  After the first week or so went by and I hadn’t reached a certain percentage of my goal, I stopped pushing the campaign.  It was an experiment, but I don’t have a huge social media presence (I prefer to increase my client base organically) and my personal Facebook friends list is small as well.  I didn’t want to blow up everyone’s news feeds with a constant barrage of Kickstarter fundraising pleas, so I decided to let it wither and die.  Lol.  The upside of it all, and part of the reason I attempted the Kickstarter campaign, is that about 300 people watched the video about my project and almost 150 people shared the project via my Kickstarter page alone!  Thanks to everyone who helped me put the word out, and also to those who pledged financial support!

So now that the Kickstarter is out of the way, I’m changing the scope of the project slightly.  I missed some of the grant funding cycles for this year by mere days/weeks, so I’ll shoot for those next year when they come around again.  At this point, I’m funding the project on my own (which is what I’ve always done) so I have to let go of shooting everything on film and stick with digital instead.  I’m disappointed, but it’s not the end of the world.  Living in Helena complicates my film photography ventures as it is, since we have no local photo shop, so this will simplify things a bit.  I will be shooting most of the subjects on this side of the state, because my travel budget will be limited, but I will take a weeklong trip to eastern MT, etc., this fall.  I bought a new digital body a few months ago, but I need a few more things before I use it for this project.  I will be purchasing a portable flash, a portrait lens and a few odds and ends.  My trusty Canon is finally on the outs, and I don’t have enough to replace it right now so I need to outfit my new Olympus OM-D E-M5 with a few of the bells and whistles that I would have used with my Canon.  I keep my gear very minimal, but these few things are essential for creating the portraits in various lighting situations that I will encounter on my travels.

That being said, I am accepting donations privately in lieu of the Kickstarter campaign, with the same rewards/incentives that I offered before.  You can view them here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sundaybest/sunday-best-a-photographic-exploration-of-fashion.  Anyone who is interested in supporting the project, please contact me to discuss arrangements.  Any donations are appreciated and will make my project a little bit better! I am pushing my shooting schedule back slightly, so I won’t begin shooting until August and I’ll go well into the fall.  I’m still looking for more subjects, so if you or anyone you know is interested, please contact me and I’ll put you on the list.  The shoots will take a couple hours max, and you will provide handwritten responses to a few questions about fashion/style/Montana.  I’ll be updating again soon via blog post and compiling my official list in the meantime.

Thanks again to everyone who’s supported me so far!  I can’t wait to get going and meet some of my subjects. Have a great weekend!
